Die Idee zum Berlin Tango High ...
Der August ist die schönste Zeit in Berlin, als Kenner genießt man diese fantastische Saison in der Großstadt, während sich die Massen an den Stränden der Welt auf die Füße treten. Um die Urlaubswochen tangomäßig zu versüßen, laden wir seit August 2007 zu einem sommerlichen alternativen Tango Festival nach Berlin ein: unser Tangostudio verwandelt sich in dieser Zeit in eine Tangooase; das Nou ist zu den Workshopzeiten für jede/n Interessierte/n geöffnet. Die Workshops finden in dem Hauptraum statt, wo 100qm säulenfreie Tanzfläche genug Platz für alle Workshop Teilnehmer bieten; in unserem zweiten, 60qm Übungsraum, kann kostenlos trainiert werden!, im Salon laden Sofas und Sessel zum entspannenten Gespräch und der Begegnung von Gleichgesinnten ein; auch die Bar ist während der Workshops geöffnet und bietet leckere Getränke und Knabbereien. Nach den Workshops gehen wir gemeinsam tanzen, wir sprechen Empfehlungen für Milongas aus die den Tango im Sommer in Berlin so einzigartig machen; auch planen wir wieder den einen oder anderen städtischen Platz tänzerisch zu erkundschaften (Hit & Run). The Concept behind the Berlin Tango High ...
August is prime time in Berlin. The connoisseur enjoys this beautiful season in the city, while tourists trample their feet on overflowing beaches around the world. Sweetening the 'summer in the city', we celebrate the "Berlin Tango High", an alternative Tango Festival, every year in August, since 2007. International teachers are there for you to imbibe Tango at its' fullest. Our studio transforms into a Tango-oasis. It will be open and welcomes everyone during Workshop hours. The bigger one of our two rooms (100sqm) will host the classes, the smaller one (60sqm) will be available for use to practice. Furthermore, the Salon offers couches and chairs to relax and meet like-minded Aficionados. The bar will be open throughout Workshop hours. When Workshops are done we will go out together to dance at Berlins’ nicest and hippest Summer-Milongas. There will also be one or the other ‘Hit&Run’, where we will dance in public places. Muss ich mich anmelden? - Nein. Der Berlin Tango High folgt einem "drop-in" System: eine Anmeldung ist nicht erforderlich, man kann einfach kommen und mittanzen.

Do I have to register? - No. The Berlin Tango High follows a "drop-in" system: registration is not required, you can just come, dance and enjoy.

Kann ich auch als einzelner Tänzer mitmachen? - Ja. Auch Einzelpersonen sind willkommen. Der Berlin Tango High ist auch ein sozialer Event und möchte einen Raum für Begegnungen ermöglichen. In den Workshops werden Partnerwechsel angeregt, wobei man natürlich nicht wechseln muss. Alle Lehrer arbeiten jedoch aus gut begründeten Motiven mit diesem pädagogischen Mittel. Achtung: Wir können allerdings keinen Partner garantieren! Eine Garantie gibt es nur wenn man jemanden mitbringt oder sich verabredet. Dazu empfehlen wir die diversen Online Tanzpartnerbörsen, und im Freundeskreis zu fragen, gerade zu solch einer Gelegenheit (Sommer-Festival) lassen sich viele gerne überreden.

Can I participate as a single dancer? - Yes, singles are welcome. The Berlin Tango High is also a social event and wants to create a space in which meetings are possible and likely to happen. All teachers will encourage partner changes in the Workshops, they use this as an effective pedagogical method; however, no one will be forced to change. Please note: we can not guarantee a partner!

Für welches Niveau sind die Workshops gedacht? - Die Erfahrung hat gezeigt, dass eine klare Zuteilung von Tanzniveau und Workshop nicht funktioniert. Es gibt zwei Möglichkeiten: die Lehrer halten sich an das ausgeschriebene Niveau, oder sie passen sich dem Niveau der meisten Teilnehmer an. Beide Wege führen zu Frustration. Wir denken seit vielen Jahren intensiv über dieses Problem nach, und denken, dass es keine allgemeingültige Lösung dazu gibt. Für das Berlin Tango High Festival hat es sich bewährt zwei Stufen zu benutzen: eine einführende ('Fundamentals'), und eine vertiefende ('Immersion'). Beide Stufen stehen generell jedem offen. Bei den 'Fundamentals' stellen die Lehrer ihre spezielle Sicht auf ein Thema vor, was auch für Fortgeschrittene Tänzer interessant ist. Bei der 'Immersion' gehen die Lehrer in die Tiefe und besprechen sowohl technische Finessen, als auch komplexere Zusammenhänge und Abfolgen, was auch für noch nicht so erfahrene Tänzer spannend und konstruktiv sein kann.

What's the level of the Workshops? - Experience has shown that a clear division in Dancelevel and Workshop doesn't work well. There are two possibilities:
the teachers follow the assigned level, or they adapt to the level of the majority of the participants. Both ways lead to frustration. Since many years we are discussing this problem, and we think that there is not one solution to it. For the Berlin Tango High Festival it has prooved to use two stages: Fundamentals and Immersion. Both are open for everyone. In the Fundamentals stage teachers introduce their specific view on a theme, which is also very interesting for more advanced dancers. In the Immersion teachers go into an exploration at greater depths, they will discuss technical finesse and more complex coherence and combinations, which is also interesting and can be constructive for not yet experinced dancers.
